The Contouring Workshop will incorporate successful elements of past workshops with new features and format based on suggestions from past workshop participants. The anatomical region of study this year will be the pelvis, with a special focus on the small bowel, sigmoid and rectum. The workshop format has been designed to optimize learning using a combination of hands-on contouring, targeted lectures, visual training, individual analysis of contours and identification of variability. The workshop is divided into seven parts: 1) introductions and statement of goals; 2) training on MIM contouring software to be used during workshop; 3) individual contouring of the critical organs; 4) lecture by expert radiation oncologist, giving general rules and techniques, and giving interesting examples of special cases; 5) presentation of quantitative analysis of participant contour variation and comparison to the gold standard; 6) discussion and interactive study of individual contours (from step #3) vs. the gold standard contours; and 7) continued lecture of other critical organs found in the same patient dataset.
